This afternoon, Governor Bruce Rauner addressed a joint session of the Illinois General Assembly and laid out his framework for working towards a balanced budget this legislative session. State Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) was pleased to hear a budget proposal that was balanced and had vision for the future:

“Today the Governor presented a budget that demonstrated fiscal constraint while responsibly paving a path for Illinois’ future. I was delighted to hear the prioritization of investing in K-12 funding and ensuring that the foundation for our state’s next generation of leaders and job creators is secure,” explained Rep. McAuliffe. “A focus on a balanced budget that encourages job growth is vital for the prosperity of all Illinois taxpayers and I was happy to hear ideas that increase the competitiveness of our state economy on the regional landscape.”

McAuliffe represents Illinois’ 20th House District which includes all or portions of Chicago’s 41st and 38th Wards, Franklin Park, Schiller Park, Rosemont, Norridge, Harwood Heights, Des Plaines, Niles and Park

The historic 100th Illinois General Assembly is now into full motion and with that marks the beginning of committee formation. State Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) has been announced as the minority spokesperson for the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, an honor maintained for the past several years. A known advocate for veterans, McAuliffe was pleased to continue working with the General Assembly to pass meaningful legislation aimed at making programs for veterans accessible and affordable.

“Our veterans selflessly sacrificed a great portion of their lives for the well-being of all of us,” said McAuliffe. “The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee is a tool of the State of Illinois to develop ways in which we can show our appreciation for their sacrifice by enacting programs to aid and assist in their civilian lives. I look forward to working with my colleagues on proposing thoughtful legislation to help out Illinois veterans.”

In addition, Rep. McAuliffe was also appointed to the House Committees on Public Utilities, Public Safety Appropriations, Healthcare Availability, Healthcare Licenses and the Special Committee on Police & First Responders.
