Springfield, IL…. State Representative Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) has filed House Resolution 968 urging the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to make changes to eligibility for health care through the Veterans Health Administration to allow for a better rules process to assist veterans from the reserves and National Guard in receiving the proper health care they have earned for serving in the United States Armed Forces.

“Multifaceted VA rules can lead to deserving veterans unfairly not getting the healthcare they need,” Rep. McAuliffe said. “If you serve this country honorably in any capacity, you shouldn’t be neglected simply because the eligibility rules are too complex.”

The O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission (ONCC) met for the fourth time on Monday. State Representative McAuliffe (R-Chicago), as a founding member of the bipartisan and bicameral O'Hare Noise Impact Legislative Caucus, took a moment to address the commission. He talked about Senate Bill 636, a bill he spearheaded through the House and became law, which encourages Chicago and O'Hare to modernize their noise monitoring technology. He also spoke about legislation being proposed this spring and the strategies to reduce noise being utilized by Heathrow Airport outside of London. 

Jurisdiction over O'Hare airport lies with the City of Chicago and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The ONCC is an inter-governmental agency formed in 1996 that is dedicated to reducing aircraft noise in the communities around O’Hare. At the meeting, the group discussed and recommended modifications for O’Hare’s nighttime noise abatement program to be presented to the FAA for review.

State Representative Michael McAuliffe visited Oriole Park Elementary on Thursday. Oriole Park is a Pre-K- through 8th-grade neighborhood school which has a Level 1+ rating, the highest a school in the CPS system can achieve. Rep. McAuliffe spoke with a 5th grade civics class about State Government and how a bill becomes a law. 

"Oriole Park is a superb public school and a great resource to the district," Rep. McAuliffe commented. "I enjoyed hearing from these bright students about bill ideas and answering their questions on what the job of a State Representative entails."
State Representative Michael McAuliffe joined State Senator John Mulroe, Cook County Commission Peter Silvestri, and and Mayor Brad Stephens at the 60th anniversary celebration of the incorporation of the Village of Rosemont. The 2.5 square mile village was first incorporated on January 20, 1956. Rosemont has served as the gateway to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. The Village has carved out a niche as a major home for numerous hotels, as well as the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, and the Allstate Arena
Illinois air travelers won a nearly two-year reprieve to use their driver's licenses and identification cards to get through airport security and onto a plane, despite the state's continuing failure to adopt more stringent federal standards for issuance of its IDs.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Friday afternoon announced that air travelers with driver's licenses or ID cards issued by states and territories that are not in compliance with Real ID Act standards can continue to use those cards until Jan. 22, 2018.

The Task Force on Local Government Consolidation and Unfunded Mandates, led by Lt. Governor Sanguinetti and created early last year through executive order 15-15, has released their final report. The task force was created with the intention of tackling the dual problem of Illinois' bloated local government system and high property taxes. Illinois has more local units of government than any other state in the nation at 6,963 and the second highest effective property tax rate. In meetings over the past year, the task force heard testimony from those representing government associations, nonprofit think tanks, researchers, and state agencies. The final report makes 27 recommendations, which were approved by the task force throughout the year, for streamlining local government, empowering communities, and saving taxpayer money. Some of the recommendations have already become law, such as a ban on creating new units of government, PA 99-0353
